Huey Breen has written to us from Australia. He worked as a shipwright and in about 1979 was honoured to be asked by Stewart Landless, the MD of the Hammerson Group, to rebuild a 1927 Fire Engine. The group owned the Warringha Mall shopping complex in Australia at Brookvale on Sydney's northern beaches. Huey got the job because he had previously refurbished a cruiser for Stewart. After the rebuild thre engine was used for years at the annual parades celebrated at the Warringah Mall shopping complex. Before 1979, the 1927 Dennis had been owned by Luna Park amusements at North Sydney. There was a fire tragedy where it was on display and Huey says how it didnt get destroyed was a miracle. Huey was amazed actually at how many Dennis fire engines were built and what an iconic company Dennis still is. He says all the buses he caught going to school there in Australia were Dennis. BravO to what they have done and are still doing. Huey will be 80 next year. Thanks Huey for a great story. |
