Adrian Strong has personal recollections of a couple of Dennis buses. He writes - Hearing about preserved Dennis Lancet YYB 118 brings back memories of my childhood in South Somerset as I lived on the South Petherton to Yeovil route operated by Hutchings and Cornelius and no doubt at some time rode on that bus or a sister ship. I became a Bus Driver in 1973 with Western National at Yeovil, but still had a good relationship with drivers from H&C and at times still rode on their buses although by then I think some of the fleet had been updated. I would like to share a photo of another H&C Dennis that was in service at the same time as YYB 118, which I hope you will enjoy. This is 623 BYA, H&C's Dennis Loline / East Lancs H68RD which was purchased new in June 1958. Around 1970/71 it was repainted in the new darker livery introduced in 1968. In June 1973 it was sold to dealer Sykes of Barnsley and exported to Italy. I can remember in my teens being at Yeovil Bus Station and seeing the driver, conductress and another H&C driver in fits of laughter. As I knew them I wandered over to see what was going on. An electrical fault had developed with the double decker: When the indicators were put on in either direction all the exterior lights inc headlights would flash in unison, as did the interior lights plus the bell ringing along merrily. ![]() Dennis Loline / East Lancs H68RD. 623 BYA. ![]() Dennis Loline / East Lancs H68RD. 623 BYA.
