Over 2000 people attended the Alexander Dennis Open Day held on April 27th 2024 at their technical development centre in Farnborough. The main focus of the event was a display of the most recent products from Alexander Dennis and this included a brace of battery electric buses, both double and single deck, including both 4- and 6-wheel configurations. There was an Enviro 200 chassis from the AD training academy on display as well as hydrogen fuel cell driven vehicles in an outside area. The converted Sable dynamometer test vehicle was also available for inspection.

Outside a number of double and single deck ADL buses gave short tours to the visitors and these included the very latest in electric vehicle technology. In the indoor area there was a comprehensive display of items from the history of the Dennis company with a running video showing Dennis buses in action.

There were a number of preserved Dennis vehicles present including cars and a tricycle dating from the early days and buses and other vehicles from 1932 onwards. With all the vehicles, both old and new, visitors were given freedom of access and there were staff on hand to deal with a myriad of questions.

The weather, whilst cold, remained dry throughout the day and a steady flow of spectators visited the displays giving rise to some interesting questions and lots of reminiscences! Hot refreshments were available and complimentary hot drinks in an indoor seating area. The 'Dennis Society' had a presence and dealt with a range of enquiries and gained a few new members in the process.
